Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Grinding Galore
I like immersive video games, the kind of games that only big studios with big budgets can build. But I rarely play such games anymore because of the insane grinding that these games require. I just want to lose myself in a world. I don't have the time to just keep mashing buttons, performing repetitive tasks.
So it was with such misgivings that I played Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game had a lot of grinding, but I found that the seamless and fluid mechanics of the game more than made up for the tiresome parts. Overall, it's a game I thoroughly enjoyed.
With that experience in my mind, I played Tears of the Kingdom. The game mechanics are still a joy, but this time I found the grinding taking away the joy. There's just too much to do in the game and it all felt like work and not play.
If the story was the least bit engaging, that could mitigated the grinding. I found the story a joke in Breath of the Wild and it was even more so in Tears of the Kingdom. It's just a veneer to take you from one level to another. There is no character to bond with or root for. I kept hitting B to get through the tedious dialog.
